The Sixes River Fund's grants this year

A quarter of a million in grants to eleven South Coast organizations, from the harbor's ice plant to the Langlois library.

A grant presentation at the Port Orford harbor: adults in rain jackets beside the ice plant, boats on their dollies behind

The Sixes River Fund is the station's community grant program: $250,000 a year to organizations between Bandon and Gold Beach, decided by a committee of employees and neighbors. This year's eleven grants went to the Port of Port Orford for a new compressor at the harbor's ice plant; the fire district for extrication tools; the Langlois library for its roof; the food pantry in Gold Beach; the Bandon community kitchen; two volunteer trail crews; the high school's robotics team; the Cape Blanco heritage society; the Elk River watershed council; and the South Coast search and rescue team for a thermal camera.

The Fund has made grants every year for more than two decades. Applications open each spring and the committee visits every applicant. Details and the application are on the community page.
