Both units in the highest performance category again

The federal regulators' annual assessment letter placed Unit 1 and Unit 2 in the highest of their performance categories, with every indicator green.

The Unit 1 control room: curved panels of indicators and recorders under soft light, two operators at the desks

Each year the federal regulators who license the station write to it with their assessment of the year's performance, built from the thousands of hours their resident inspectors spend in the plant and from the indicators every plant reports. This year's letter placed both Sixes River units in the highest performance category, with every indicator green, and set the coming year's inspection program at the baseline level.

The letter is discussed at a public meeting in Port Orford each spring, which the regulators host and the station attends. Anyone may come and ask anything. The resident inspectors, who live on the South Coast and have unescorted access to every part of the plant at any hour, are usually there to answer.

The assessment and the record are described on the safety page.
